Stuck in Kansas City
Posted February 17, 2008
Greetings from the five-star Fairfield Inn Kansas City Airport.
Right now said airport, which has only been closed for a total of three hours since 1972 due to inclement weather, has been closed this morning for three hours and counting.
A freezing rain has turned into a wet blizzard. There is no visibility to speak of. And at this point I'm just hoping to get back to Boulder in time for Wednesday's tip-off between the Buffs and Texas Tech.
At least I didn't have to drive to Lawrence in this lovely storm. ...
Speaking of Allen Fieldhouse, here's an idea for Mike Bohn:
In exchange for building a new basketball practice facility, something Jeff Bzdelik will demand in order to stay beyond three years at CU, the athletic director should add language into the first-year head coach's contract stipulating that he can't leave the program until the Buffs win a game in Lawrence.
It has been 25 years since CU experienced the thrill of victory in Rock-Chalk territory. And based on Saturday's game, Bzdelik has a lot of work to do just to compete with Bill Self's talent. I don't think the coach's first Nuggets team would have defeated these Jayhawks. ...
After the game got completely out of hand I made the mistake of opening up the laptop courtside to get a headstart on my game story. Sure enough, Darrell Arthur sent a Xavier Silas dunk attempt right into the back of my screen. Fortunately, the Camera-issued Dell proved to be a lot tougher than CU's defense.
But fear not Buffs hoops junkies, there is some light at the end of this dark tunnel. Potentially.
Bzdelik's boys should at least have a chance for W's in five of their last six regular-season games. At home against Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State. On the road against Missouri and Nebraska.
I watched K-State's game on Saturday night against Mizzou and if Michael Beasley shows up on March 4, CU doesn't stand much of a chance in the Little Apple.
If they can get 3-to-5 more wins would you consider it a step in the right direction? ...
Thanks for reading. Apparently, I have a runway to shovel and a plane to de-ice if I want to see my family again. Talk to you later in the week.

Ryan, thanks for taking one for the team. 3-5 more wins would definitely be a step in the right direction. With a few notable exceptions, Buzz has the buffs competitive night in and night out this year, a stark contrast to last year.
