Rapids fans taken for a ride
Posted August 25, 2007
To all of you folks who swallowed the hook this week when the Colorado Rapids put more tickets on sale for Sunday's game vs. the LA Galaxy and David Beckham:
Shame, shame.
Don't say you weren't warned. The Daily Camera's Jennifer Osieczanek just last Monday predicted that the phony wouldn't play in Colorado.
She was right. After a week of playing a game in London and another a day later in Los Angeles, Posh Becks is just too tired and too sore to make it to Colorado Sunday to play against the Rapids.
Of course, the Rapids aren't offering any refunds to those poor suckers who shelled out money this week for the SRO tickets. And, neither did the New England Revolution give any refunds when they made fans buy four-game packages in order to get a ticket to the Beckham game -- which Beckham didn't participate in because his ankle was sore.
From our point of view, it's a gutless move by the Rapids. They advertised the 500 SRO tickets sold earlier this week specifically as a chance to see Beckham. Any franchise with a shred of integrity would have provided refunds when it was announced Posh was staying home.
But that's a word evidently not in the Rapids' vocabulary.
Apparently, Abraham Lincoln was right: You CAN fool some of the people all of the time. What Lincoln didn't mention is that these folks always seem to be soccer fans.

Very often I agree with you but this time I disagree. What if Beckham had food poisoning the night before the game in Denver? What if he got into a car accident on the way to the game? Should the Rapids have to repay fans then? Come on Neill, its sports, and sometime the stars need a day off. That's the chance fans take when they purchase tickets. No other sport would offer a refund, there's no sense in beating the Rapids up.
