Wrong impression
Posted November 26, 2007
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked, “How can Kathy McConnell-Miller lose to Siena in her third season at CU?”
Not a good impression to make in your home opener, for sure.
Comments or emails to me following the 83-74 in the first round of the Coors Classic on Friday haven’t been pretty.
Not to take anything away from Siena, most people said, but no Big 12 team should be losing to a team that hails from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The comment that struck me the most was that people decided not to go to Saturday’s game against Rice because CU played so poorly against Siena.
That’s not good news for a coach in her third year of trying to rebuild a program.
Fans expected their team to be more prepared. They wanted to get excited about Brittany Spears and Jackie McFarland. They wanted to see the promise of better things to come.
Instead, they saw much of the same old thing.
But if the response by the fans to Friday’s loss is any indication, they won’t stick around much longer.
