Bragging rights
Posted February 9, 2007
It’s a battle for Serbian bragging rights Saturday in the Coors Events Center.
CU senior Jasmina Ilic and Nebraska senior Jelena Spiric each hail from Serbia.
They played club basketball for about 1½ years and against each other for their respective club teams for about two years back home.
Now they talk to each other about once a week.
“It’s always fun to see somebody from back home,” said Ilic, who is also good friends with Serbian Ivana Catic, a sophomore guard at Kansas. “The world is so small that we ended up in the same conference.”
Ilic called Spiric a smart, experienced player.
Back in Serbia, Spiric played point guard when the two were on the same team and Spiric was always trying to keep Ilic from jacking up shots right away. (Sound familiar?)
On Saturday in the Coors Events Center, however, the two play will play the same position of small forward so they will be matched up against each other.
“In a game, we’re not super-friends,” Ilic said. “But after the game, it’s all laughs and giggles.”
