Huskers sounding confident
Posted July 21, 2008
New Nebraska coach Bo Pelini and three of his players just finished meeting with the media and they seem pretty confident going into 2008 considering how 2007 went for one of the most storied programs in the country.
Quarterback Joe Ganz, offensive lineman Matt Slauson and defensive lineman Barry Turner all talked about Pelini as being an intense guy whom the players can relate to.
Ganz said he had the impression at times that Pelini would rather be on the field in uniform able to hit someone. Slauson vowed the Cornhuskers will return to their winning ways quickly and said he is more looking forward to playing Missouri this season because the Tigers are favored to win the North Division and he believes Nebraska's slide began in earnest against the Tigers last season.
Pelini said the biggest challenge facing the Cornhuskers entering camp is improving on defense and learning an entirely new defensive scheme. He said the Huskers are 'nowhere near" being the old Blackshirts of yesteryear, but he believes this team can be strong on the defensive side of the ball.
In case you missed it, Big Red got lit up last year allowing 40 or more points in six games, including 76 to Kansas and 65 to the Buffs.
I'll have more on the Corn tomorrow on Buffzone.
Next up is Texas Tech, which didn't bring either one of its primary star players in quarterback Graham Harrell or wide receiver Michael Crabtree. This basically sums up how I feel about that.
Booooooooooooo!

Um... Sorry Husker fans but your "slide" started well before the Missouri game last year. Try looking back a few more years to say ...oh I don't know.. 2001?
