I'm back and so is George

Posted January 12, 2008

KYLE RINGO373[1]

All of you who turned blue holding your breath waiting for me to blog again, well, you're all dead now. Sorry, but it serves you right.

What the heck were you thinking?

So I talked to George Hypolite. The CU defensive lineman got his letter back from the NFL Draft Advisory Committee. I bet you all want to know where he is projected to go in the April draft should he decide leave school early.

Drum roll please. ...

George isn't saying.

Yep, he's keeping the info to himself. I can't say that I blame him. Why share that unless it's just way better than you ever thought it would be?

"It's for my eyes only," he said. "I didn't do it to be like, 'Oh, look whatthe NFL said about me.' I did it cause I just wanted to know. I was ust curious. Nothing more, nothing less."

Needless to say, George is coming back for his senior season. Not exactly huge news. He said he would have to be the No. 1 overall pick to leave school early. He was exaggerating a bit, but probably not by much. I mean,if they said he was a top-10 pick, I think it's safe to say he would have gone.

So here is what George says he takes away from the evaluation, which basically gives the committee's best guess of where a player would be drafted.

"Really, whatit did for me is it gave me gauge of where I am as a player," Hypolite said. "Especially in this draft with so many good defensive linemen and so many guys being evaluated, it gave me a gauge of where they think I am.

"That along with my coaches and getting what I need to work on from them is going to point me in the right direction."

Hypolite played the last part of the season and the bowl game with a pretty bad hamstring injury. He says he won't require surgery but he is going to need to rest it for it to heal. So how is that going to affect his winter conditioning and his pursuit of improvement?

"It's the kind of injury that just takes awhile," he said. "Our medical staff is not going tp put me in a position where I'm going to hurt myself any more."

It will be good to have George back. He's one of the most fun guys on the team. Always smiling and usually has something interesting to say.

...Hey Buff fans. If you're feeling nostalgic, tune in to Fox Sports Net on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. to watch an entire show dedicated to the 1990 national championship football season at CU. Host Drew Goodman interviews former coaches Bill McCartney and Gary Barnett and CU players Charles Johnson, Mike Pritchard, Alfred Williams, Eric Bieniemy and Jay Leeuwenburg. He also gets some perspective from former Notre Dame receiver Rocket Ismail.

...RISE Magazine is out with its list of the top-100 football recruits for the 2008 class. Running back Darrell Scott, from St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif., is No. 2 on the list. He is considering coming to CU.

CU commit Jon Major (LB, Ponderosa High School) is No. 31 on the list. Another CU pledge, Lynn Katoa (LB, Salt Lake City) is No. 50.

...Anyone going to watch the CU men's basketball team at No. 10 Texas A&M this afternoon? Might be painful. In fact, I'd bet on painful. Another lost season.

Hey Kyle,
Good to hear from you again!
I'm planning on watching the Buffs tommorrow. Haven't seen them play yet, since we don't see much of them in Iowa. But now that I have DirecTV, I have more access.

Good to have you back on the blog. Hope to see you in Ames for the CU/ISU B-Ball game also. Will you be in town?

Go Buffs!

Hudgins, Hypolite, Lucas and (last and far from least) Nicolas! What a starting group on the line! Maybe a few of those young guys like Goree, Brace, Herrod, Perry and Kaynor are ready to push last year's starters...if so, I think we're looking at one of the better units in the nation.

GO BUFFS!

Kyle-- Good to see you back again. Hope the holidays treated you well...

Great news on Hypolite, I'm hopeful that the defense will be better this year despite losing T-Wheat & Dizon...

However, I am worried about the offense... Particularly the RB position-- please keep us posted on any developments you hear in regard to D. Scott, R. Polk or P.T. Gates... Any word on how Polk's ASU visit went?
