Buffs losing a recruit?
Posted September 25, 2007
It looks like one of the six recruits committed to Colorado for the 2008 recruiting class is about to jump ship.
Rivals.com reported Corey Surrency, a four-star junior college wide receiver at El Camino Community College in Torrance, Calif., is going to Florida State or LSU instead of CU.
Surrency is being recruited by wide receivers coach Eric Kiesau and was the first player to commit to CU for its 2008 class. He has since received increasing attention from more and more schools, including several ranked in the top 25.
Surrency is the highest rated recruit in CU's class at this point.
"Any day now I am going to be de-committing (from Colorado)," Surrency told Rivals.com. "I think some other schools are waiting for me to do that before they throw offers my way."
Obviously, this isn't good news for the Buffs, but there is still plenty of time to nab some other talented wideouts. The Buffs didn't get true freshman Josh Smith until late in the process last year and he has already become one of the team's beat playmakers.
No need to panic, but it's definitely not a good thing to be losing recruits at this point.
...For those of you who watch BuffzoneTV each week, I wanted to let you know Neill and I will begin a new segment next week in which we answer one or two mailbag questions. So them my way, and maybe we will use your question on the show.
If not, I'll use it in the regular mailbag here.
Send them to ringok@dailycamera.com
I'm off to Dan Hawkins' weekly press conference.

Thank you for increasing your recruiting coverage!

Kid would never have qualified acedmically at CU. Problem with JUCO transfers is that the credits they take are not always honored by institutions like CU. Would love to have a 6-5 WR, but I am glad we have standards in place. We don't need to turn into a KSU. Plenty of good WR's still on the board right now.

CU doesn't exactly have the greatest success with JC kids. Historically, it's been a complete waste of time. Would have been nice to give it a "try" with Surrency but he'll face no academic roadblocks heading elsewhere. Can't blame him really.

Anyone that commits, then says he is soft and then months later changes his mind to leave, I am happy he is not becoming a BUFF. You are either commited or NOT. Stop playing the game. I am not worried at all. We have been able to get some talent the last couple of years. A few more wins this season and the recruits will be even better

He has been flaky throughout. Yeah, his size and speed are intriguing, but he never really showed CU the proper respect and his academic situation is tenuous at best.
WR is one position that does not worry me recruiting-wise. Right now, I am excited about the competition for Darrell Scott and Jon Major.

I barely consider this a loss. It looked pretty on the ratings lists, but Surrencey had zero chance of ever showing up on campus. I've been reading his comments for while now- he's going to end up at LSU. A "soft" verbal isn't a verbal. I have no idea why people even bother. The only downside is we're recruiting 2 of his teammates. Hopeful this doesn't dissuade them.

so glad Michael Sipili has more dedication.
If this guy's route running reflects his planning we are better off without him

It's the media, so you never know, but there is a report on a recruit on buffstampede.com in which he states that Jon Major told him he is either going to Wisconsin or Oklahoma. That is not good. We can't afford to lose Colorado's top recruits. If that's true, it's a very bad sign. I know there's still time, but I have to say - I'm a little worried about this years class at the moment. It doesn't look good at all.

Correct posts on Surrency - we dont need JC kids who cant qualify. We need freshman who can redshirt and build depth. We will be fine without him.
Re: Major, it would be nice if he stayed in state, but alot of Colorado kids are anxious to go elsewhere - I dont know why, but they are.
The class will be fine if we get Scott and a hadnful of others. Hawkins suprised us last year with a good class - look at the Maiava's and Smith's.....
