Correction of note

If you read my game story Sunday morning following the loss to Florida State, you might have read over this error of fact. I'm here to set the record straight.
In describing Florida State's first score of the game, a touchdown run by tailback Antone Smith, I wrote that he ran through a hole where linebacker R.J. Brown should have been.
I always record CU's televised games and I try to review them on Sundays. As I did so this morning, I realized Brown wasn't even on the field on the play in question. Jeff Smart was the linebacker on that side of the field, but the entire CU defense really got sucked into the flow of the play going left before Smith cutback to the right.
Anyway, it was a mistake on my part nonetheless and when I'm wrong, I have no problem saying so. Apologies to R.J.
...Other than the play in question, I thought the Buffs were pretty good defensively against the Seminoles. You don't see many teams stop offenses on 12 of 13 third-down conversion attempts.
And there is good news for the defense this week with the addition of sophomore linebacker Michael Sipili and junior college transfer Chris Perri. Both should be eligible to play after serving three-game suspensions for off-field issues over the summer.
Now if the Buffs can just get that offensive line going.
...I'm not under-estimating this week's opponent Miami (Ohio) when I say this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Buffs have a big day this week. I think the RedHawks have a chance to come in here and get a win, but they don't have the kind of speed and talent the Buffs have faced the last two weeks.
...Send me your questions for this week's mailbag at ringok@dailycamera.com

Observation: Last week, Fox cut away from the game in progress to the CU/ASU opening kickoff. This week, ESPN stayed with the Alabama/Arkansas game until its conclusion, cutting away to FSU/CU near the end of the first quarter. Question: Could ESPN have cut away also, at least for this viewing area? That is, would it have been feasible technically? Or, is it simply a matter of preference? If the latter, who renders that decision?

I watched the ASU/CU game from the east coast and there was no such cut to kickoff from the game in progress. FSN has regional headquarters, so they have different guidelines for each region, which is why FSN rocky mountain viewers got to see the kickoff. ESPN is national, so what you see is what you get regardless of region.

Any comments on the playcalling? Fouts mentioned that no one, including the defense, was fooled by those two handoffs in the third quarter after Cody completed a long pass deep in FSU territory. It was disappointing, just ask the blonde.
