Scrimmage No. 3
Posted August 24, 2007
I just got back from the third and final scrimmage of fall camp and you wouldn't believe what happened.
Too bad I can't tell you. If we report on the scrimmage, coach Dan Hawkins will take away our practice privileges. It's too bad too because there is this huge piece of news just burning a hole in my notebook.
Seriously though, you didn't miss much. There were 72 plays run in about an hour and most of it was situational type stuff. We have been cleared to report that much. Apparently if we go any further, Sonny Lubick and the rest of the CSU coaching staff will be able to tell what the game plan is and all that offseason conditioning and practicing and weight-lifting will have been wasted.
Sonny's got skills.
Once again, there was no Bernard Jackson sighting. But true freshman wide receiver Josh Smith was present, watching his teammates from the sideline in shorts and his No. 9 black jersey.
I figure no one is going to care if I write about two guys who aren't going to play.
Smith was smiling a lot. Apparently if you damage an internal organ, you get paroled from wheelbarrow duty.
...Speaking of that, safety Lionel Harris was moving sand like a man today. The guy could work for a cement company easy. Jason Brace, Arthur Jaffee and Drew Hudgins were serving as the chain crew. Oops, I think I just broke the rules and revealed too much detail.
So I guess if you've read this much about a scrimmage I am not allowed to speak about for fear of losing a finger I need for typing in a back room of the Dal Ward Center, I owe it to you to give my impressions of how they looked.
About the same as last week. Can we please play a game now?

Hey Kyle,
I'm dying to know how Josh Smith is doing. I've been following his story pretty closely. He seems like a kid that could be big time for CU -- even this year. Did you talk to him? Does he think he might be back for the Florida State game (or sooner)?
