Jackson doubtful for CSU

Posted August 23, 2007

Ok, Ok, I've been the world's laziest blogger the past few days. My apologies. You can all stop trying to light a fire under me with the e-mails now.

But do feel free to send me some more questions for the next mailbag. Those are always fun.

Anyway, now that I've buried the lede.

Bernard Jackson was missing in action once again at today's morning practice. Apparently, he's still trying to get his academic situation cleared up.

I have to be honest, I asked Bernard about this earlier in camp and he told me he was in no jeopardy of being ineligible and that it was just a simple class conflict. But I'm hearing different information from others in the know.

Right now everyone in the program has their fingers crossed that Jackson is going to get the grades he needs from summer classes and be eligible. If he doesn't his career will be over.

He's a senior without a redshirt year available, so if he is ruled ineligible because he hasn't completed the necessary number of credits the NCAA requires going into your senior year, he's basically done. What an awful way that would be for him to end his career.

Coach Dan Hawkins was asked if Bernard had missed too much time in camp to be a part of the game plan.

"It's doubtful, but we'll see where his situation evolves," Hawkins said.

...Defensive lineman Jason Brace continues to miss practices as he recovers from what apparently was a pretty bad concussion. Hawkins said doctors are just being cautious with Brace and want him to be fully recovered before he gets back on the field.

...two-a-days are almost over. There will be no happier man on the planet than me when that day arrives Sunday morning. Woo-hoo!

Back with more later

I feel real sorry for you Kyle. Having to watch two-a-days and all... NOT. I'm sitting here in a scene straight outta Office Space.

Hope Bernard pulls it off.

I have to admit up to this point I have also put positive spin on Bernard's "interesting" career at CU. But at what point does he simply become a major dissapointment. We are talking about a very highly rated QB out of HS who isn't good enough to play QB in college. And now, as a 5th yr senior, academically ineligible. All that "Team First" sounds like BS, seniors don't flirt with ineligibility.

I agree with norcallovesdabuffs, what the F*ck! Bernard nice job, senior year, your chance to make the ultimate highlight real, your chance to make it to the NFL and you jeopordize that by taking to many classes this summer. Graduating from college is a huge accomplishment, but why not get the NFL contract first then go back and get your 6 hours or whatever you need to finish. Where is our leader?

Boy, that would really stink for Bernard and CU if he's ineligible. Sports Illustrated actually mentioned him in their college issue as one of the "players to watch this year." We need his speed. Geez, if we lose Gates and Perez to admissions, and Smith to a bruised kidney and Jackson to academics, we'll have lost a lot of the big playmakers we desperately need! Not a good omen. It would suck too regarding Bernard because he's been such a team guy. I was also looking forward to the Slash position being cemented at CU. I don't know why more teams don't create such a position on a permanent basis.

Everyone needs to suspend judgement as far as Bernard is concerned. We don't really know specifically what is going on, but apparently he has some personal issues that he's had to work through that have impacted his school work. Yeah, it would suck to see his career end this way; lets hope he can get through this and be eligible.

Come on B-Jack. You can do it dude... we need your speed, agility, and athleticism on this team! Life is tough, no doubt, and your extenuating circumstances are crazy. I'm sorry you've had to deal with all that sh*t. But just know that there are a TON of people pulling for you and wishing you the best of luck.

Keep teh nose in teh books and you can do it! Good luck!
