Good news on Smith
Posted August 20, 2007
Colorado coach Dan Hawkins visited injured wide receiver Josh Smith in the hospital Sunday night and was encouraged by what he saw.
Hawkins said Smith was in high spirits and was looking forward to his release a day after suffering a bruised kidney in Saturday's scrimmage.
Smith still hadn't been released this morning when I talked with Hawkins after the team's walk-through, but it is likely Smith will be out of the hospital by tonight.
"He's great," Hawkins said. "He's also one of those guys I always talk to the team about. I just think ...that guy, he just has such a great countenance to him. He's going to minimize anything that is wrong with him, and he's going to maximize his mental, psychological and emotional situation.
"He's smiling laughing and doing well."
Hawkins said he still has no idea when he will know if Smith can play against Colorado State. Hawkins said it will be up to Smith and the doctors.
...The Buffs have the afternoon off because it's move-in day for freshmen at the dorms. Most of the team planned to swim at the campus recreation center.
The team will be back on the field Tuesday for two practices, including another session from 8 to 10 p.m. to help acclimate players to playing at night. Two of the first three games begin at 8 p.m.
...Hawkins said there was no new information on summer grades.

Great news. That positive attitude will help Josh heal and bounce back well.
Look forward to seeing Josh on the field as soon as he is recovered. Go Buffs!!!

Sure glad to read that he's doing okay. Sounds like an outstanding young man.

Kyle -
What have you heard about the likelihood of Corey Surrency's verbal commitment to CU sticking? This guy is awesome, and a huge win if CU can land him.

Surrency's taking an official visit to LSU for the Florida/ LSU game, and he's saying all kinds of nice things about the Tigers- SEC, national championships, blah blah blah. I'd say his chances of sticking are less than optimal.
