Ryan Miller: "There is no way I'm ready to start."

Posted August 6, 2007

True freshman tackle Ryan Miller is probably the most highly recruited player to sign with Colorado since the ballyhooed class of 2000, and he came to Boulder this summer with very high expectations. But after going through his first collegiate practice Monday, Miller said he is not ready for a place in the starting lineup just yet.

“I have God-given size, but there is no way I’m ready to start right now,” Miller said. “It felt good. Obviously things are going 90 miles an hour. In high school you dominate but in college you’re back on that first level. I’m on that first level right now bringing up pads and I just have to work my way back up.”

I have no doubt his first practice was an eye-opening experience and things might continue to be tough on Miller for a couple weeks. But I'm also pretty sure CU fans will see Miller in the starting lineup before October and maybe eve in the season opener.

He is just too talented and he loves the game. And, oh, by the way, he's 6-foot-8 and 320 pounds. Not exactly a skinny freshman who needs time to develop.

Monday he called the opportunity to play college football the greatest thing in his life so far.

You get a great idea of the kind of attitude Miller brings to the table by listening him talk about his relationship with offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.

“He’s more of a teacher than a coach right now and that’s a great thing,” he said. “I’ll take all the help I can get from these guys so I can start this freshman year.”

I can't wait to see this kid plow through the Nebraska defensive line.
