Texas A&M Aggies

AP presason ranking: Not ranked but receiving votes

Head coach: Mark Turgeon (49-21 at A&M, 202-140 overall)

Last season: 24-10 overall, 9-7 Big 12 (t-4th)

Returning stars: Donald Sloan, 6-3, Sr., G (11.8 ppg); B.J. Holmes, 5-11, Jr., G (8.8 ppg); Bryan Davis, 6-1, So., G (10.8 ppg).

Keep an eye on: Incoming freshmen Naji Hibbert, a 6-6 guard from Baltimore who was ranked as the nation`s No. 59 prospect by ESPN.com, and Khris Middleton, a 6-7 prospect from South Carolina who ESPN.com tabbed as the No. 1 small forward in last year`s class. Both are practicing well and should have an immediate impact on an already deep roster, according to Turgeon.

Stats that matter: Texas A&M is one of only six programs nationally to win at least one NCAA Tournament game in each of the past four years. ... Holmes led the Big 12 in 3-point shooting percentage last season (.470). ... The Aggies were the only team in the Big 12 last season to make more free throws (594) than their opponents attempted (577).

Quotable: "We`re making progress and the kids are growing up a little bit. We have good leaders," Turgeon said. "It`s been a fun team to coach. I think we have a lot of versatility offensively and defensively. We`re really fast. We have a lot of speed."

Outlook: Turgeon seems to be able to get his team to play its best basketball at the end of the season. If that continues the Aggies certainly have the talent to play their way into the NCAA Tournament again and advance in the bracket.

CU sees 'em: Jan. 23 in College Station (11:30 a.m., Big 12 Network).

Tomorrow`s preview: Oklahoma State Cowboys
